a life story

I’ve got something to say…

It’s not just any life story. It’s MY life Story… with all of its’ many twists and turns; and all its’ ups and downs. Yes, this life has already made for some interesting (at least entertaining) stories. I’ve been able to keep people spellbound for hours with excerpts from this life of mine. In recent years I’ve had the thought: “Man, what a life I’ve lived indeed! I could (or should) write a book!” And so, a couple of years ago, I actually tried to do just that… In fact, I tried a couple of times. Note to self: Writing a book should best be left to writers. The bottom line is: I don’t know how to write a book. And I’m not inclined to take on yet another vocation, at this stage of my life. So my life story is going to be published as a blog.  Why not? I think blogs will ultimately replace books anyway. I may not live to see that, but it will happen. And it will be a happy day for many. Books will likely be housed in museums of history, like so many other forms of teaching, and communication of thought.

So, a blog it is, then. I think it will serve the same purpose.  In fact, since it can be constantly updated, and you get a chance to comment along the way, I think it will end up being way better than a book! (plus, just think of all the trees it will save).

A Life Story (working title)
I’ve been around for a while now… almost sixty years! And I’ve learned a thing or two in all those years.  I just hope I haven’t forgotten too much along the way.  I’m going to do my best to cover a lot of territory, so please bear with me. Lately I’ve had this real need to help younger people. To advise them, and try to guide them. I think part of the reason is that I’ve seen so many who are just lost. They don’t seem to know what to do next.  There never seems to be a good way to dispense my wisdom, so I figured putting it here, in one place would be the most logical thing to do. That way, it’s there if they want it.

My hope is that my experiences and life lessons will have some value to someone. And if it actually helps someone, well then, wouldn’t that be kinda awesome…

Stuff I plan to cover in this blog will run the gamut, and will include:

  • roots
  • our house
  • my family (growing up)
  • my family (today)
  • my take on it
  • most unforgettable people
  • there are places I remember
    • obx
    • the blue ridge
    • the big apple
  • what I did
    • for money
    • for fun
    • wtf
  • lessons learned
    • ethics
    • the golden rule
    • a true friend
    • on balance
  • relationships
    • on being a husband
    • on being a father
    • on being a son
    • on being a brother
    • on being a friend
    • on being a good example
    • on taking a chance
    • co-workers
    • student-teacher
    • on mentoring
  • the big picture
    • a world view
    • for heaven’s sake
    • life or death
    • the white light

As you can see, by that list, I have a lot to say. It will take a while to get it all down on paper, so please be patient. I hope when it’s complete, it will mean something to someone.  Feel free to comment.

Thanks!
